For my first Post, I will Discuss a modern atrocity: the banning of books. For my example, I will use the American Classic Tom Sawyer, one of many great pieces of Literature that is banned in modern society.According to Forbiddenlibrary.com, Tom Sawyer was banned for racially charged language and was even banned by the USSR in 1930 and confiscated from civilians (ridiculous). Ironically, the book itself teaches us the wrongs of Segregation and advocates the African American Community for it's courage, which I personally admire as well. Those of us that understand who Mark Twain was would not confuse him with a racist, and whoever does is a moron.
The setting of the book, the time and place (the south) , would explain accurately some of the racist tones of certain characters, but the essence of that isn't racist: it's historically correct. If we ban books based on shallow, simple-minded ignorance we may never advance as a species, as this prevents the understanding of your fellow man. We have to realize the right to speak freely has been taken away because idiot's feelings get hurt and we should just please them. Freedom of speech is one of the few things in this world I consider Black and White: either none of it's okay, or all of it is. I Prefer the ladder.

Hey i agree with you because i believe that banning books is stupid because some of these books are considered classics in which we and our children and their children need to read. They are a gateway to the past for future generations to help them learn what was it like to live back then. Also some of Literature's best characters like Atticus Finch and Tom Sawyer need to survive and have future generations enjoy them to. Banning books is just a stupid thing that literally destroys our history.
